7 Days-Kilimanjaro climbing via Machame Route

If you’re reading this, you’re probably interested in climbing Kilimanjaro on the Machame Route. You’re in good company. Of the seven main routes used to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, the Machame route is the most popular path. It is the route of choice for many people because it provides impressive views and a variety of habitats. About 50% of all climbers, and most seasoned climbers, choose the Machame route. It is also one of the cheaper routes due to its easy access and shorter itinerary.

Day 1

Drive from Arusha to Machame Gate

Start a day 1 Kilimanjaro Climb Machame Route just after an early breakfast, drive to Machame Gate for registration then start your climb. Today is a nice leisurely hike through the tropical beautiful rain forest. As you pass through the rainforest, you are likely to spot colobus monkeys and wild birds, Dinner and Overnight at Machame camp.

Day 2

Machame Camp to Shira camp

From the Machame Hut, you cross the stream onto its west bank and follow the path up the steep rocky ridge – criss-crossing a few times before reaching Shira camp, at the base of a semi-circular wall of rocks, Dinner and overnight at Shira cave camp.

Day 3

Shira cave camp to Barranco camp

From Shira cave camp, you hike to Lava Tower (16,500Ft) for acclimatize and then proceed down to Barranco Camp. Tonight’s camp is one of the best on the mountain, Dinner and overnight at Barranco camp.

Day 4

Barranco camp to Karanga camp

A hike from Barranco Camp through the edge of great Barranco Wall – It’s a tough morning climb on a steep trail, but once you reach the top of the wall, the views are scenic and majestic, Dinner and overnight at Karanga camp.

Day 5

Karanga camp to Barafu Camp

The day will be shorter a hike than the previous days, trekking up to the base camp before your last ascent day to the summit. You must get lots of rest as you will need all your energy for the hike to the Roof of Africa – Uhuru Peak, Dinner and rest before final ascent.

Day 6

Barafu camp summit to Mweka Camp

Final day where you will start pushing to the summit early after a midnight, the hike will take you Pole Pole from the Base to stela point 4-5 hours. And from the Stela Point through the Crater Rim will take one hour and half to reach to the roof of Africa, at the Main Peak you will take quick pictures, then you start continue descending to down to Barafu camp for breakfast / lunch with little rest before you descend to Mweka camp, Dinner and overnight at Mweka Camp.

Day 7

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

On your final day, you will have a short three hour descend out, walking through the lush forest. You will meet our driver with the vehicle at the Mweka gate to drive back to Hotel in Arusha for the overnight and further more relaxation.
